South Whidbey High School won the North Puget Sound area Knowledge Bowl at Jackson High School on Dec. 14.
Over 54 teams and around 260 students participated in the event. There was no distinction between school sizes, making South Whidbey one of the smallest schools at the meet, said Greg Ballog, a biology teacher at the high school and advisor to the team.
The team includes Kari Hustad, Liam Twomey, Sean Miles and Collin Burns.
Knowledge Bowl competitions typically quiz students on a variety of academic subjects like history, literature, music, mathematics and science.
Last year, South Whidbey’s Knowledge Bowl team placed third at the class 1A state Knowledge Bowl tournament. The team included current team members Sean Miles, Liam Twomey and Collin Burns and graduated seniors Joel Worster, Josiah Colby and Amara Garibyan.
