South Whidbey Fire/EMS rescued a dog from a cliff in Langley this week.
The animal, a 70-pound old English sheep dog puppy, fell down a bluff at the 5300 block of Wilkinson Road around 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8. Fourteen responders from fire districts on South and Central Whidbey came to the dog’s aid.
Deputy Chief Wendy Moffatt said the cliff was about 200 feet high, although the dog only fell roughly five feet from the top. The cliffside was covered in ivy, which made rescue efforts more difficult. All it took was some clearing, and the massive puppy managed to escape to its owners.
“After clearing away some ivy along the edge, the dog saw its owner,” Moffatt said. “He managed to climb his way up the cliff and reunited safely with his owner.”
