The driver of a vehicle that crashed into a power pole near Bailey’s Corner in the early hours of Sunday morning elected to flee on foot and abandon the wreckage.
Nobody hurt in the incident, although the driver’s status is unknown.
South Whidbey Fire/EMS Deputy Chief Jon Beck said fire officials located a car that “completely destroyed” the support pole for a power pole near Cultus Bay Road and Jewett Road. The car was totaled.
Beck said the vehicle appeared to be northbound on Cultus Bay Road and attempted to navigate the curve near Bailey’s Corner. The car appeared to lose control and take out the power pole.
“When we showed up on scene, there was nobody around,” Beck said.
