Falcon cheer team named academic state champions

South Whidbey High School’s girls cheer team was recently named the WIAA class 1A academic state champion with an average grade-point-average (GPA) of 3.905.

The Falcons’ combined GPA was the highest among cheer teams and second best among more than a dozen winter sports teams and activities. The cheer roster included Thandeka Brigham, Carmen Warwick, Bronte Patty-Carol, Sophia Nielsen, Erin Brewer, Allison Stark, Emmah Byrne and Niki Greene. Also assisting in acrobatic maneuvers were Cameron Middlebrook and Greyson Clements.

They were coached by Savannah Turner.

“Honestly I could go on and on about these girls,” Turner said. “I set my expectations pretty high and they always seem to exceed them. They are the most hard working, dedicated bunch of ladies I’ve ever worked with!”
