The old Bayview School will continue to be Goosefoot’s home base for the next decade.

The South Whidbey School Board approved a lease extension for the non-profit organization from July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2027 at a school board workshop on May 10. Rent for the building will remain set at $2,500 until 2020, when it will increase by 1.82 percent annually over the “last base year,” according to a school document. The percentage is calculated based on a five year average of the consumer price index for Western Washington.

Sandy Whiting, executive director of Goosefoot, said the lease extension ensures that the organization can be in Bayview for the long-term. In addition to using the building for its base of operations, Goosefoot also sublets extra space to three artists and a school counselor, while also leaving one large classroom open for workshops.

“We keep that for the community to use,” Whiting said. “That’s part of our mission of pulling the community together.”
