The Machine Shop’s request to hold an amplified music event this weekend is being discussed by the Langley City Council in a special meeting at 5 p.m. on Wednesday at city hall.
The city council voted to bump the number of amplified music events allowed in a year from six to 12 at its regular monthly meeting on June 19, under the condition that each be approved individually prior to the event. The city has since received complaints from residents who say there was insufficient notice of the council’s consideration to increase the number of events allowed in the ordinance and therefore “did not provide openness,” according to an email sent by Mayor Tim Callison to the council.
They also complained that the full requirements of the ordinance have not been enforced.
Tim Leonard, owner of The Machine Shop, is requesting a permitted event for Saturday, July 1.
The meeting tonight will allow the council to hear from those who object to the change in the ordinance, as well as any problems with previous events that residents may have.
