A request by South Whidbey High School’s cross country team to travel to an invitational in Montana could get the South Whidbey School Board’s stamp of approval tonight at its regular monthly meeting.

The cross country team is asking for permission to travel to Missoula, Mont. for the Mountain West Classic from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1. The Mountain West Classic takes place on the University of Montana campus and would be a brand new venue for the cross country program. The cross country team has previously traveled to compete in Hawaii at Pearl Harbor, Stanford University and Seaside, Ore.

The total cost of the trip, $2,500, would be covered by team fundraising efforts. Athletes will be responsible for any extra money needed to supplement the provided food budget. Coaches Doug Fulton, Shauna Davies and two or more parents will accompany the athletes on the trip.
