Road crews complete Cultus Bay Road repair

After a slide in late March limited a 200-foot stretch of Cultus Bay Road to a single lane, residents will be glad to see road repair crews have completed work on the damaged shoulder.

The roadwork was completed Tuesday, Aug. 8, according to a press release from Island County Public Works. Both lanes are now open.

The damaged portion of the road was north of Blue Heron Way.

In order to help with the evaluation of the slide, Public Works hired a geotechnical consultant. The county used “specialized equipment” to examine the soil layers under the road.

Using soil data compiled with the equipment, the consultant created a shoulder stabilization design that is expected to keep the road from slipping again.
