Bob Schoeler died peacefully while on vacation with his family in Bend, Ore.

He loved his family and friends, and above all he loved God and his faith.

Bob is survived by his wife Christine, his father Edward (Duffy) Schoeler, his brother Ed from Tucson, Ariz., and five children, Jamie Corum (Texas), Michael Mykris (Idaho), Kenna Schoeler (California), Brie Schoeler-Firth (California) and Roslyn Schoeler (Langley).

His grandson Shane Douglas (California) and many nieces and nephews also survive.

Bob was born in Jamaica Queens, N.Y., on Nov. 4, 1954.

“My family moved to San Diego when I was 12, but I found them,” he would say, always the jokester, with a warm smile, a hug and kind words for everyone.

Bob served our country in the U.S. Navy after graduating high school. He moved to Whidbey Island, which soon became his favorite place for his last 24 years. He teamed up with Jim Freeman doing some Community Fund Raisers. As “D.J. Bob,” he also helped out as D.J. for different parties.

Bob was a catalyst in starting a “Soup” ministry at St. Hubert Church every Wednesday lunch hour, with everyone welcome, and soup for the warming shelter in Langley and Ryan’s House.

Bob was always thinking of other people’s needs, and with that the Schoeler family would like to thank our community for the love and support they have received from all of you. Bob’s cremains will be placed on Sept. 11, 2017, at the Tahoma National Cementary.
