Tristan Campbell of Freeland was one of 16 high school students selected to the United States Department of Agriculture’s AgDiscovery program this summer.
The program was hosted by Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. Campbell was one of 85 applicants from 10 different states and territories around the country who applied for the program.
AgDiscovery is an outreach program designed to help high school students learn about careers in plant and animal science and wildlife management. Campbell lived on the college campus for two weeks and learned about agriculture from university professors and scientists in a variety of fields. The main focus of the program is the interconnections between wildlife biology and conservation, laboratory technology and diagnostics, animal science and veterinary medicine.
He also visited over a dozen facilities and got “hands-on” experience in anatomy, bacteriology, hematology, parasitology and a host of other procedures.
