Bob Miller, commissioner of the Holmes Harbor Sewer District, was recently elected to serve as the next vice president of the Washington Association of Sewer and Water Districts, or WASWD.

Miller currently serves as WASWD’s at-large director representative on the board of directors.

The association was founded in 1995 and represents the state’s special purpose sewer and water districts. The districts provide 19 percent of Washington’s citizens with clean and affordable water and 14 percent with sewer services; there are 182 special purpose sewer and water districts in the state.

One of the association’s roles is to provide education and training to elected district commissioners and continue education classes for general managers and certified operators of water and wastewater treatment plants. It is also meant to foster increased communication between members and encourage standardization of water and sewer methods and services to bring more benefits to ratepayers.
