Construction crews will begin work on the Clinton Beach Dock on Dec. 26, Port of South Whidbey Executive Director Angi Mozer announced last week.

The announcement was made at the monthly commissioner’s meeting.

Repair work on the dock isn’t expected to take long, Mozer said.

“They’re planning on five days of work, so hopefully it’ll be done by the new year,” Mozer said at the meeting.

The damaged dock is located alongside the Clinton ferry terminal on its northern side. It was closed in April 2016 for safety reasons after it sustained damage from winter storms, Mozer said. Comprised of two main floats and oriented in an “L” formation, the joint that connects the long portion to the shorter was damaged by excessive wave action. It’s caused the floats to rub against each other, posing potential danger to users.

“They float freely from each other,” Mozer said. “This project will connect those two parts of the dock to make it safer.”

Repair work will also be done on the frames around the pilings. The metal frames are cracked.

The job will cost $27,000.
