For the month of January, admission to the Island County Museum in Coupeville is free.
Admission fees are sponsored by the Island County Historical Society’s Board of Trustees.
“Every month, except April is up for adoption,” said museum director Rick Castellano. “Our hopes are that all 12 months will be sponsored, and that admission will always be free to all our visitors.”
It is estimated that the museum greets some 10,000 visitors each year, but many of those visitors choose not to explore the museum when they learn of the admission fees, which range from $2-$4, according to a press release.
“If we didn’t have to charge admissions, we would likely see 20-40 percent more visitors,” Castellano said.
