The South Whidbey High School baseball team gave first-place Cedar Park Christian-Bothell a battle before falling 5-4 at Marymoore Park Friday, March 30.

The defending Cascade Conference champion Eagles, who posted a 14-1 league record and a 24-3 overall mark last spring, remained unbeaten in conference play this year with the win. South Whidbey fell to 1-4 in league and 2-5 overall.

Cedar Park Christian (6-0, 7-2) scored two runs in the fifth inning and three in the sixth to wipe away the Falcons’ 4-0 lead.

South Whidbey starter Ethan Petty took a no-hitter into the fourth inning and kept the Eagles off the board until the fifth. He was replaced by Kody Newman with one out in the fifth inning after giving up a hit and walk that resulted in two runs.

Petty finished with six strikeouts and four walks.

Newman was the victim of two errors in the sixth that resulted in three unearned runs.

For the game, South Whidbey out-hit Cedar Park Christian 8-5, with Newman collecting three of the Falcon hits, including a double.

Alex Black, Taylor Brown and Drew Fry also doubled. Luke Rookstool and Aidyn Frederick added singles.

Black and Fry walked in the third inning and scored on Newman’s single.

In the fourth, Brown, Black and Fry hit consecutive doubles to score the Falcons’ final two runs.

South Whidbey stranded eight runners in the game, six in scoring position.

Cedar Park Christian defeated the Falcons 13-0 March 21.

The teams will complete their three-game series when CPC visits Langley at 4 p.m. Monday, April 2.
