A planned power outage is scheduled to take place during the overnight hours of Aug. 20 to safely make repairs to Puget Sound Energy equipment on South Whidbey Island.

The planned outage could last up to three hours and is scheduled to occur between 11:59 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20 and 3 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21. The area of the outage will be south of the intersection of WA-525 and South Smugglers Cove Road in Greenbank.

This planned outage comes after equipment failure at the Greenbank electric substation knocked out power to the area on Saturday, Aug. 11. Due to the complexity of the work, and to ensure the safety of crews and reliability of the local electric system, PSE crews will need to briefly turn off the power to make permanent repairs to the substation equipment.

What to expect

What residents can expect:

· As soon as the work is complete, power will return to your residence or business automatically.

· There will likely be some noise from trucks and flashing lights within the Greenbank substation work area during the time of the outage.

PSE recognizes power outages are inconvenient, and appreciates residents’ patience and understanding while PSE completes this work as safely and efficiently as possible.

Tips to prepare for an outage:

· Unplug computers, televisions and sensitive electronics.

· Minimize opening refrigerator and freezer doors during the outage.

· Check to make sure all heat-producing appliances (stoves, toaster ovens, irons, hair curlers) are turned off.

· If electricity is required to run your water or refill your toilet, have a reserve of water on hand prior to the planned power outage.

· Once the power has been restored for about 10 minutes, turn your equipment back on in stages so you don’t overload the system.
