Infrastructure fixes to be discussed May 28

Langley’s plan to fix its antiquated water and sewage system will be discussed 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 28 at Langley Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.

“We have been working on this project since January 2018 and would like to share our concept with the community and receive input,” said Mayor Tim Callison.

“We propose to pay for this project with a combination of grants and bond/levy on Langley parcels.”

The infrastructure committee studying the problem includes city council members Dominique Emerson and Peter Morton, residents and public works staff; additional input from city engineering experts, utility consultants and a bond underwriter was also provided.

An estimated $7 million is needed to repair a dozen identified water, sewer and stormwater problems occurring on the city’s east side, in the downtown business district and in other neighborhoods.

Most water pipes were installed in the 1950s through the 1970s and have a lifetime service expectancy of about 50 years, said Emerson, who heads the committee.
