This year, the fire forecasts provided by the state Department of Natural Resources indicate a potential for increased outdoor fires occurring in Western Washington, according the Island County fire marshal.
Each Island County fire agency experienced wildfires in March this year, earlier than normal.
A common thread is a lack of moisture and resultant moisture content of the fuels. The Island County fire marshal will continue to work with local fire districts, DNR and NW Clean Air and Island County Public Health to monitor the moisture conditions and make appropriate changes and public notifications as necessary.
