The 23rd annual Whidbey Island Triathlon set for Saturday, July 27, is sold out to participants, but South Whidbey Parks and Recreation District is still taking applications from those who would like to volunteer to help stage the event.
“We are seeking volunteers in all areas, from trail marshals to clean-up crew,” said recreation supervisor Carrie Monforte in a press release. “Over the course of two days, we will need to fill over 100 volunteer positions.
“Approximately 315 athletes will be looking to volunteers for encouragement, assistance and support. Volunteers are the heart of this event, and we couldn’t do it without them. Join us for a fun and rewarding experience. Please encourage your friends, family or club to volunteer with you.”
The triathlon begins with a swim in Goss Lake, transitions to a bike ride through the backroads of South Whidbey and wraps up with a run at Community Park.
The Whidbey Triathlon benefits South Whidbey Parks and Recreation programs.
