  • The gypsy jazz musical tradition continues with DJANGOFEST NW 2019 on Sept. 18-22. Produced by WICA, 565 Camano Ave., Langley. Purchase tickets online or see the schedule at www.djangofest.com
  • The ARTISTS OF SOUTH WHIDBEY is currently accepting entries for the Crow Show, which will be on display in October. Original works in any medium that depict “the many facets of crows in reality and fantasy” can be submitted prior to the deadline of Sept. 17.
  • Registration for the WHIDBEY ART TRAIL is currently open for the next season, running June through May 2020.
  • “The Magic of Things,” oil paintings by Cary Loopuyt Jurriaans, will be displayed at the ROB SCHOUTEN GALLERY Sept. 7-30. Opening reception is 5-7 p.m. during LANGLEY’S FIRST SATURDAY ART WALK.

  • Artist Doug Hansen will be September’s guest artist at the WHIDBEY ART GALLERY. He has an “inventive style that integrates oils and organic elements into unexpectedly unique three-dimensional studies.” The second guest artist will be photographer Colleen Skinner, who captures images of nature and architecture. Their work is on display throughout the month at the gallery, located at 220 Second Street, Langley. Hansen and Skinner will be at the Art Walk on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 5-7 p.m.
  • Scenes of South Whidbey are regularly captured by the WHIDBEY ISLAND SKETCHERS, a group of about 15 who meet Wednesdays to draw. whidbeyislandsketchers.blogspot.com
  • Celebrating the Women of the 116th Congress is the UUCWI’s display during September. Local fiber artist Cheryl Lawrence was inspired to create a collection of work after ongoing political headlines surrounding women’s issues and the recent historic rise of female participation at every level of politics. Opening reception is Saturday, Sept. 7, 4-7 p.m at 20103 Highway 525, Freeland.

  • Rocks and gemstones will be on display for the RAVEN ROCKS GALLERY’s “The Stones of September” Mineral Wonders from Windwalker Taibi , running through Oct. 2. There will be semi-precious, hand-cut gemstones, quartz crystal clusers and other minerals showcased. The open house will be on SECOND SATURDAY ART WALK, 2-5 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Greenbank Farm. Other features at gallery this month include hand-cut Whidbey Island beach stones ready to be worn as pendants, the first showing of a soon-to-be permanent addition to the gallery. There will also be Susan Gunderson’s collection of bowls, jars and more. Helen Nind will bring fun and beautiful pendants, necklaces and earrings.
  • The featured artist for September and October in the OAK HARBOR CITY HALL is Helen Bates, who paints in oil, watercolor, acrylics and more.
  • Ron Farrell and Erika Rae Heins exhibit artwork at OAK HARBOR LIBRARY in September. Farrell’s paintings depict Skagit Valley scenes. Heins shares watercolor and ink illustrations of female characters from the books of J.R.R. Tolkien.
  • The WHIDBEY WEAVERS GUILD is a community of fiber artists that meets the first Thursday of the month, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Pacific Rim Institute, Coupeville.
  • For the first Friday of each month, visit downtown Oak Harbor for WHIMSIES FIRST FRIDAY. The small shop features a collection of “whimsical treasures” and celebrates the new month with fun and games, including a wheel ship for a prize, tea sampling, discount coupons and more at 830 SE Pioneer Way, Oak Harbor.

  • The GARRY OAK GALLERY’s featured artist for the month of September is Beth B. Johns, who began photographing Whidbey Island and the area after she and her husband retired to Oak Harbor in 2013. The gallery is located at 830 SE Pioneer Way, #101, Oak Harbor.
  • The work of oil painter Timothy Haslet can be viewed at the PENN COVE GALLERY for September. On Tuesday, Sept. 24, he will be at the gallery demonstrating his tools and techniques from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. The gallering is also welcoming bead weaver Shari Thompson to its collection of local talent. The Penn Cove Gallery is at 9 NW Front Street, Coupeville.
  • Explore myth, legend, magic and mystery with the PACIFIC NORTHWEST ART SCHOOL’s fall display, “Mystery And Folklore,” at 15 NW Birch St., Coupeville.
