A motorcyclist was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle Tuesday afternoon after a collision on Highway 525 at the intersection with Scott Road in Freeland.
Wednesday, a Harborview spokesperson said Freeland resident Dale Barthlett, 54, was in critical condition in ICU.
The Washington State Patrol reported that Barthlett had been riding a 2013 Harley Davidson FLHX motorcycle north on Highway 525.
Langley resident John Meyer, 72, was driving a 2013 Toyota Highlander on Scott Road and stopped at the intersection with Highway 525. Meyer drove into the intersection, colliding with Barthlett’s motorcycle, the State Patrol reported.
A helicopter with Airlift Northwest landed in a grassy field behind the Freeland Post Office and transported Barthlett to Harborview. He was wearing a helmet when the crash occurred.
Meyer was injured and treated at the scene.
The collision was reported at 1:59 p.m. Both the motorcycle and the Highlander were totalled, the State Patrol reported.
The State Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident. The accident report states that it’s unknown whether drug and alcohol were involved.
