Jeff Ambrose passed away on October 29, 2019 at Home Place in Oak Harbor with his wife Karen, and two of his daughters by his side.
He was born on February 15, 1939 in French Camp CA and spent his first 18 years in Tracy, CA. After graduating Tracy High School, Jeff joined the Navy in 1957 and served 4 years on a submarine and on a battleship in the North Atlantic. After his discharge he returned to Tracy, CA then moved to the Bay Area where he worked in printed circuit manufacturing.
In 1976 Jeff married the love of his life Karen and together they moved to the Half Moon Bay, CA area where along with commuting to his job in San Bruno he also helped with the family business the Carriage House Café. On a trip to the Pacific Northwest to visit 4 of their 6 kids Jeff and Karen discovered Whidbey Island in 1985 and this was a start to a new chapter in their lives. Living on the Island they both worked for Whidbey Island Antiques in Langley for many years before Jeff moved on to Peak Manufacturing followed by Bayview Farm and Garden then to his favorite job as manager of Skagit Farmers Supply in Freeland, where he was until he retired in 2006. He truly missed all the customers and staff he spent so many years working with. He loved people and enjoyed refinishing antiques, working on his property, and spending time in the company of family and friends. After retirement he was a greeter at the Calvary Chapel in Clinton, WA and he loved his church community.
The last 18 months of his life were spent at Home Place in Oak Harbor where he was provided with wonderful care by the staff, his family is truly grateful to the care he was shown, we would also like to give thanks to Whidbey Health Hospice that stepped in to help in his last few weeks.
Jeff is survived by his wife Karen Ambrose of 43 years but they were also friends from childhood and were meant to spend their lives together. He is also survived by his children Brian Portolese (Paula) Everett WA, Scott Ambrose (Wendy) San Diego CA, Renee Brooks (Charlie) Lynnwood WA, Randy Portolese (Dee) Bothell WA, Parish Kubik (Brett) Castro Valley CA, Annamarie Voss (Tim) Greenbank WA, 10 Grandchildren, 1 Great Granddaughter Rylie, His Granddogs, and his much loved pets Fluffy and Smokie.
