After losing 72-37 at Lynden Christian Wednesday, Feb. 12, in the semifinals of the district tournament, the South Whidbey High School boys basketball team will have two more chances to secure a berth in the bi-district tournament.
The Falcons (16-6) host Cedar Park Christian (14-8) at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13. The two teams split during the regular season, each winning at home.
The winner will earn a bi-district berth and play the winner of Nooksack Valley and Meridian at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at Mount Vernon High School for third and fourth places.
The loser takes on the loser of the Nooksack Valley-Meridian game at 3:45 p.m. Saturday at Mount Vernon. The winner earns fifth place and the final bi-district berth.
Lynden Christian (18-4), the top seed out of the Northwest Conference entering the district tournament, outscored South Whidbey 45-10 in the middle two periods to roll by the Falcons into the district championship game with King’s.
South Whidbey’s Dexter Jokinen hit three three-pointers and a free throw and Carson Wrightson added two buckets as the Falcons led 14-13 after one period.
The Lyncs then exploded for 21 second-quarter point while South Whidbey scored just 5, getting a three-ball from Nick Young and another Wrightson hoop.
Lynden Christian continued the onslaught with 24 third-quarter points, taking a 57-24 lead. Again, the Falcons managed only 5. Jokinen sank another from beyond the arc and Levi Buck hit a field goal.
Jokinen, who drained his fifth three-pointer in the fourth quarter, finished with 16 points. Wrightson had 11, Young 3, Jacob Ng 2, Kole Nelson 2, Buck 2 and Cody Eager 1.
Jaden DeBoer, Shale Whittern and Bryce Bouman all scored 12 for LC. The Lyncs nailed 13 three-pointers in the game.
