A Bayview home was fully engulfed in flames early Sunday morning. Despite the complete loss, no one was injured.
Around 1:55 a.m. on May 10, South Whidbey Fire/EMS responded to a blaze near Bayview Road, according to Public Information Officer Jon Gabelein.
A neighbor on the road saw the smoke and flames from afar and reported it.
Gabelein said firefighters arrived to find the structure mostly gone, and the conflagration was extinguished within 30 minutes.
The building was not located near any other houses, so the fire was not in danger of spreading.
The fire’s cause is still under investigation.
According to Gabelein, the historic house near Lone Lake has been unoccupied for several years.
The owners, who are Whidbey residents living in another home on the island, were notified.
If the fire had happened during the day, he is confident someone could have seen it while driving to the store.
But because of its late occurrence, it went unnoticed.
“It burned quickly, just because it was an older house,” Gabelein said.
