Artworks Gallery in Langley is celebrating one year at its new location.
The gallery, a co-op featuring the work of 16 Whidbey artists was previously in Greenbank, but moved to the Langley Village in August 2020.
From 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1 the artists are hosting an anniversary event.
The event will include sweet treats and live music by Sarungano, a quartet of Whidbey women who perform Zimbabwean music.
Artworks Gallery media liaison and artist Katherine Newton said the Langley location is working out wonderfully for the artists. She said the space is brighter and more interesting than the previous location, with its only drawback being “tucked in the back” of the courtyard.
“We’re working actively to get people to recognize that courtyard location.”
The celebration won’t be Whidbey residents’ last chance to enjoy art and music at Artworks. The gallery is also a stop on Langley’s First Saturday Art Walks, which resumed in July after a pandemic-forced hiatus.
Visitors to Artworks during the walks, 5-7 p.m. on the first Saturday of every month, can enjoy the music of guitarist Quinn Fitzpatrick, whose music covers a vast stylistic spectrum.
“It was just so lovely having the music in the courtyard, and a lot of people came,” she said. “We had a lot of visitors in the gallery. It felt really nice to have people there again.”
Artworks Gallery features art in a wide variety of media, including glass, wood, photography, paint, jewelry, fiber and more. It is staffed and operated entirely by the artists. Its summer hours are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday through Monday, except on the first Saturday of each month, when it stays open until 7 p.m. to accommodate the Langley Art Walk.
