Robert Lawrence Kirby passed away on December 26th, 2022 at age 90 in his Oak Harbor home. Preceding him in death are his wife, Miyoko, and his parents, William and Alice Kirby, and his brother, Daniel. He is survived by his sister Virginia, daughter Maria, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Robert was born September 22nd, 1932 in Bellwood, Nebraska. He joined the US Army in 1950, and served in the US Air Force and US Navy. There were a variety of places to which he was deployed, but Okinawa was where he met his wife, Miyoko. They were married over 50 years. After retiring honorably from the military, with over 29 years of service, he spent time volunteering in a variety of capacities, but he most enjoyed the over 24 years at the local sheriff’s office. He had a love for the local birds and plants, and taught his granddaughters as much as he could about nature. Robert will be dearly missed.
A celebration of life will be held at DH restaurant in Oak Harbor on February 18th from 1-3 pm. We will also celebrate the life of his wife, Miyoko. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to The Gideons International, PO Box 909, Poulsbo, WA 98370.
