Friday, January 20, 2023, Charles Lloyd Williams, a.k.a. “Papa Chuckles” was able to end his suffering from illness just before Christmas and be folded into the arms of God on December 22, 2022.
Charlie was born January 7, 1956 to Charles and Abigail (Dunn) Williams in Bellingham, WA. They brought him home to Lopez Island to meet his four older siblings and seven years later was joined by his younger brother Jeffrey. Charlie raised his two children, Cora and Cyrus for much of their childhood as a single parent on Whidbey Island. Their welfare was always his top priority and after they were grown and started families of their own, he became a doting grandfather the children called their Papa, who would drop whatever he was doing to help out with the grandkids whenever he could. In fact, Charlie was known to his friends and family as a person to depend on, who would show up if you needed help or just good company. He usually traveled with his guitar, oftentimes pulling it out to strum some cords and sing one of the loving ballads he’d composed. As Cora says, “he was the bestest friend to everyone and anyone”- humble and kind to everyone he met; he did not judge others.
He is survived by his devoted daughter Cora Williams and two sisters, Emareya (Steven) Brock and Kate (Gary) Dahlstedt, and brother David Williams. He was a “top notch Papa bear” to six grandchildren, Caitlyn, Calista, Cara, Woodrow, Charlotte and Hunter and great grandfather to baby Oliver, as well as Uncle to numerous nieces and nephews and also survived by many loved cousins. He is now joined in spirit with his son Cyrus who preceded him in death, and his mother Abigail and father Charles, as well as his brothers William and Jeffrey.
A gathering for family and friends will be held at a later date in the spring after the chill of winter is past as he would’ve liked, to honor Charlie’s memory and celebrate his life. Arrangements are under the care of Kern Funeral Home, Mount Vernon.
