Last of 6 kids born to Rev. Oluf (b.1884) and wife Clara (b.1889) in Ketchikan, AK, Don peacefully passed in Fernandina Beach, FL. When he was 5, the family moved to Anacortes. Don spent his school years in Tom Sawyer-like fashion with pal Jim Berentson. Don received a B.A., Ed at Pacific Lutheran College in 1957, where he met Barbara Skjonsby. They married and moved to Oak Harbor to teach. They soon started a family and had 3 sons. 30 years’ teaching also brought many lifelong friends and fishing pals. Barb passed in 1998. Don then married Margaret (FKA “Harpster”) who passed in 2017.
Don was a leader in many community service groups and a 60 year member of Oak Harbor Lutheran. In Florida, Don was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran and the Sons of Norway.
Don is survived by sons Rick, Steve (Kori), Dan (Yuli) grandkids Lauren (Nove), their twins Thor and Zephyr, Kyle (Samantha), their daughter Bailey, and Knute (Kait), and their daughters Havyn and Reverie, and many other extended loved ones.
Arrangements were courtesy of Eternity Mortuary and services held at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
