LANGLEY — Anacortes scored 14 points in the first three minutes to put the South Whidbey football team in a deficit it couldn’t get out of Friday night, losing 35-21.
In the 10th and final game of the Falcon football season, South Whidbey (3-4 Cascade Conference, 4-6 overall) was caught on its heels from the first play.
LANGLEY — A spot in the 2A state volleyball tournament was within reach.

The Falcons rallied from the brink of elimination to win the fourth set and force a fifth against arch-rival Archbishop Murphy. The Wildcats recovered from losing the first set 15-25 to win the next two 25-17 and 25-20.
Two quick scores put Anacortes ahead 14-0 in both teams’ final game.
LYNDEN — Two different volleyball teams represented South Whidbey in the Northwest District 1 tournament Wednesday night.
They had identical uniforms, strategies, cheers, coaches and fans.
They also had the same players. And that’s what was strange about a 3-0 loss to Burlington-Edison following a 3-2 win against the host team Lynden.
South Whidbey took another shot at evening its record Friday night against Anacortes in a district crossover match.
The Falcons played the Anacortes Seahawks (3-4 in Northwest Conference, 3-6 overall) after the Record went to press. South Whidbey hosted the game at Waterman Field.
