The Veterans Resource Center in Freeland will host a Veterans Stand Down, an assortment of services for veterans of all eras, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today.
MOUNT VERNON — The recipe to win a district baseball championship is simple.
A complete game on the mound, a few swings of the bat, a routine pop fly catch and a throw to second base won the game for South Whidbey.
BAYVIEW — Lone Lake is a little crowded this July.

The South Whidbey Little League 11- and 12-year-old All-Stars beat Anacortes 20-3, after losing the opening game 4-3 to Sedro-Woolley. The All-Stars then won two more 10-run victories to play in the championship series against South Skagit.
LANGLEY — Library services face the largest cuts in the school district budget for the coming year, though some say cuts to sports and other extracurricular activities may be long overdue.
After a stop-and-go year of listing their property and golf course, Island Greens, Dave and Karen Anderson have found a buyer.
And another set of links on the South End — the Holmes Harbor Golf Course — was also sold recently. The 18-hole course was purchased by Onyxx Capital. Kevin Hanchett said the time was right to buy the course near Freeland.

After all, it stands 20 feet high in front of the main entrance.
Everyone has a first day at work.
But not everyone’s first day is filled with as many meetings as Josephine Moccia, the new superintendent for the South Whidbey School District. Moccia has had so many meetings since July 1 that she couldn’t recall the number.
Runners don’t come to the Langley Half Marathon to set personal records, especially the race veterans.

LANGLEY — Dakota Stone has dethroned the “Queen of Boxing.”
Stone defeated Christy Martin, the “Queen of Boxing,” in a rematch last month at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
