Ben Rusch was offered and has accepted the girls head soccer coach position.
“My goal, and it may be a little high, is to win the conference,” Rusch said. “I’m just excited to see how far we can go.”

Pat Myatt is a lot of things.
He’s a senior at South Whidbey.

He’ll soon be a student at Western Washington University.
He’s brash. He’s bold. He’s quick.
He’s also a first team all-Cascade Conference forward in boys soccer. And it’s the second year in a row he earned the honor.

As his mom, Bayview School graduate Courtney Cox, was presented by her advocate, the little star decided it was his time to shine. He pulled her cap off by the tassel. Cox tried to put it on him.

Together, the 123 graduating seniors have 2,214 years of experience.
That’s 2,214 years of bumps, bruises, books, lectures, lessons, life lessons, failures and triumphs.
Of those 123 seniors who will receive their diplomas on Saturday, June 18 at South Whidbey High School’s graduation ceremony, 1 percent maintained perfect 4.0 grade point averages.
Andrea Leigh Berg and Sean George are that 1 percent.
The Langley Middle School track and field team finished its season on June 2 at the league championship meet at King’s High School in Shoreline.

For 15 years, the Chum Run has signaled the end of school and the start of summer.
It started out as a small gathering with a handful of runners and grew into a community event that attracts more than 100 participants spanning all ages and abilities.
SEATTLE — Hayley Newman won her first-round match before she lost the next two and was eliminated from placing in the girls singles 2A state championship at the Nordstrom Tennis Center at the University of Washington.
SEATTLE — The Newman sibling rivalry continued on May 27 at the 2A state tennis tournament.
Riley Newman, a senior, represented the South Whidbey boys tennis team in singles. Hayley Newman, a sophomore and Riley’s sister, represented the girls tennis team in singles. Both Newmans won their first-round matches in two sets in a best-of-three format.
At this rate, Angelina Berger will break the shot put record early next season.
Except, the record is one she set earlier this season at 38 feet, 5.25 inches.
Berger, a sophomore at South Whidbey, finished fourth in the shot put at the 2A state track and field meet on May 27 at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma. Her coaches suggested for her to focus on her aim, not throwing her farthest.
The 15th Annual Chum Run is still open for registration, as well as day-of race registration.
