Jim Harwell, 68, a beloved longtime South End resident and owner of Jim’s Hardware, passed away Sunday, Feb. 10 at home after a short bout with cancer.
Harwell, who lived in Langley with his wife Mary, owned the store for the last 35 years and was considered an institution by friends and customers alike.
LANGLEY — His official title may be “Facilities and Grounds Supervisor,” but Tom Fallon insists he’s simply “the maintenance guy.”
And if the levy and bond proposal from the South Whidbey Parks & Recreation District is approved by voters on Feb. 19, Fallon will be the one most affected — the money raised will keep Fallon very, very busy. The supervisor will be the go-to guy in making sure essential improvements are made at South Whidbey Community Park and other district facilities.

The Port of South Whidbey is hoping South End residents will come out tonight to throw roses or rocks at the port’s new plan to expand the Langley Marina.
Linda Haddon is mad as heck and doesn’t want to take it any more.
Mainly, she’s upset about high property taxes and the state ferry system.
Haddon will run this year as a Republican against longtime state Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen for the 10th District Senate seat. The district includes all of Island County and parts of Snohomish and Skagit counties.
