Regarding Nov. 12 concert at WICA: This has to have been one of the most extraordinary performances ever.

Perfect staging, with everything placed just right, a subtle matter of proportion. The lighting was ideal, the clue being that one was never aware of it being too bright or too dim or intrusive. The musicians were in harmony with one another which is especially interesting since this particular group had never worked together before and didn’t have much time for rehearsals. Everyone hopes they will do more together and even make a recording; Dan O’Brien, bass; Eric Reid, guitar;  Stuart Vazquez, percussion.

Nancy was in absolute top form; spontaneous yet with perfect timing and sequencing throughout. The singing was out of this world with her own special style. Her voice is powerful and strong even when almost a whisper. She has a wide dynamics range with perfect pitch the whole way.

Her movements were as though choreographed by — let’s say Martha Graham. Whether on the piano bench or standing, but especially when moving across the stage. Even pulling off the trick of turning her back to the audience (quite a feat) while drawing attention to the guitarist, the bassist and the percussionist in turn.  Adding to the fun was the delightful play of expressions on her face while at the keyboard.

The whole evening was enriched by the intimate rapport with the audience and their enthusiastic response. Nancy’s warmth and generosity encompasses her fellow musicians, as well as the audience, especially noting her dedication of the show to Drew Kampion.

Of course, the heart and soul of it all was the singing. I think there is no one else like her. All in all a perfect performance and a delightful evening.
