To the editor:
The 2012 election campaign is under way already. I heard an ad on the radio telling me how bad the Democrats are and how good the Republicans are.
This ad was sponsored by Crossroads GPS, an entity formed by corporations to buy huge quantities of airtime to badmouth anyone who might appear to be interested in running for office with the idea of helping the people of America. They are against healthcare reform, what they call “Obamacare.”
Never mind that this will help millions of people — they don’t care. To these Republican, and in some cases, Democratic politicians, the people aren’t important, only profits for corporations and the campaign donations they garner for doing the corporation’s bidding are.
These are the same politicians who want to cut spending on the people’s needs yet raise the military budget. These politicians are the ones who pray the loudest at the National Prayer Breakfast.
Owned by large corporations to shill for their interests, these media-buying entities have the resources to continue lying non-stop. The horrendous decision by a partisan and biased Supreme Court in the form of “Citizens United” made this possible.
What saddens me most is that there are still so many ignorant Americans who buy into this and vote for these anti-human politicians, against their own interests.
Sinclair Lewis said, “When Fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross,” to which I would add, “At the front of the parade are large corporations paying huge sums of money to spread lies in the American media.”
Brace yourself America.
