To the editor:
Given the recent calamities in Japan, I know a lot of us may be wondering what Island County’s emergency plan is, especially as it might involve tsunami alerts.
Most of us who live near the “edges” of the island are accustomed to seeing the evacuation signs, but my family is unaware of any warning systems should there actually be time for an evacuation. I couldn’t see where on the county’s website that kind of information might reside.
I’d love to see the Record do an assessment of the emergency planning that’s in place and what we ought to be doing to be better prepared. Sadly, this looks like the perfect “teachable” moment.
