To the editor:
Thanks to all who contributed to The Clyde’s Island 2 Island Love campaign to raise money to help rebuild Haiti after its devastating earthquake.
Clyde patrons put an astonishing $2,192 in the Magic Change Jar in the 59 days of January and February. We even had folks turned away from sell-outs leaving money at the box office to be put in the jar. Another $6,475 came from the businesses and individuals who offered to match the first $500 donated by moviegoers. Haiti Challenge Partners included the usual Magic Change Jar partners — The Clyde, Lindsay Communications and Island Athletic Club—as well as DownSound Racers, the YES kids of Island Coffeehouse, Brian Stowell, Vicki Robin, Susan Cohen and Gary Croft, and five individuals/couples who preferred to stay anonymous. Special call-out to the endurance athletes of DownSound Racers who, ever competitive, raised enough to provide nearly three matches.
Grand total collected in two months: $8,667. Thanks to your generosity, we were able to pass on $1,902 to Habitat for Humanity, $2,180 to Heifer International and $4,585 to Partners in Health for their ongoing efforts in Haiti. Thanks also to the Record, Sue Frause and Drew Kampion for helping spread the word.
