Jim Recupero: Thanks, Langley citizens, for letting me serve on city council | LETTER TO THE EDITOR

I want to thank the people of Langley for the opportunity to serve the city as a council member for the past eight years. Without your having elected me to this position, I could never have experienced the details of decision-making of city government. I couldn’t have imagined the complexity of complying with the countless legalities, the research, time in meetings and hard work involved.

To the editor:

I want to thank the people of Langley for the opportunity to serve the city as a council member for the past eight years. Without your having elected me to this position, I could never have experienced the details of decision-making of city government. I couldn’t have imagined the complexity of complying with the countless legalities, the research, time in meetings and hard work involved.

After working with council colleagues, the mayor, the diligent city planners and office staff, the volunteer boards and committees, I’ve learned just how much these dedicated people work to administer the affairs of city government.

The people who live here have seen many changes, and have dealt with many issues having long-ranging consequences. I’ve admired their civic-mindedness and have learned much from listening as they gave pro and con input into the process. It has been an invaluable part of council members’ and the mayor’s responsibility to balance the requirements of their job with the interests and rights of citizens.

I wouldn’t trade these past eight years, and I thank each person involved for this extraordinary experience. It’s been quite a ride!
