To the editor:

I fully realize there are some here on the South End of the island who are “other than pleased” with the results of the August primary. I felt the same way after the 2008 election.

I also completely understand how seeing the political signs of the individuals who were victorious can be nauseating, I felt the same way walking by a life-size cutout of one such individual every single day, multiple times a day at the Island County Fair.

But, just because I felt “other than pleased” and nauseated, it would never give me the right to destroy, vandalize or steal those political signs. To the individual(s) who is (are) doing these things to my political signs on the corner of Wintergreen Drive and Campbell Road, can you please show me the same respect I show others of your political preference, and let me legally voice my opinions?

Destroying, vandalizing or stealing political signs isn’t going to achieve the change you’re looking for. In fact, it casts a really bad darkness on all those of your political slant.

Win the right way — support your candidates, your values and your beliefs with their signs, with your finances, with your time and energy and most important of all, vote.

Any child (which the offender(s) may be) can destroy, vandalize and steal. It takes a real citizen to be a catalyst for positive change. Exercise your legal rights, just as I do.
