To the editor:

We believe Langley City Treasurer Debbie Mahler is at risk of losing her job because she tried to fulfill her professional obligation to protect the people of Langley. It appears that our tax dollars are being spent in an attempt to remove her from a position she has held with distinction for 18 years.

The cost to protect oneself in this kind of situation is more than most of us could handle on our own. That is one reason many of us are silent when we would like to speak up. Ms. Mahler is standing up on behalf of this community. This community can stand up on behalf of Ms. Mahler if we wish to.

Contributions by check can be made out to “Debbie L. Mahler” and sent to PO Box 242, Langley, WA 98260. Donors names will be kept private unless individuals expressly say otherwise. As would be expected, a strict accounting of all money will be kept and checks written to Ms. Mahler’s legal representative.

Should there be funds remaining when Ms. Mahler decides the issues involved have been settled, those funds will be put toward a public celebration of Langley in Langley.
