Letter: Mayor is an elected official, not a leader

Editor,

So, trouble in paradise. Saw the paper today while at work and had a hope it’s not true. Tried to send email, but wasn’t able to access city of Oak Harbor email server.

I’ll just be direct. Mayor Ronnie (Wright), did you legally cook the books, using your financial expertise and background and get Tiffany to sign off on a raise for you? Sneaking it in the working budget for the city council to sign off on? Yes or no question.

If so, what makes you think you are entitled to even ask for a raise without full public disclosure, transparency and the vote of the people. Maybe because by state law, you don’t have to.

A better question is where were the council members members at. … I am not attacking any of you, I’m looking for a logical explanation of why this is even coming and what are the facts of the issue.

Ronnie, be a good chap and take the “positive leadership” line out of your mayor bio on the city of Oak Harbor web page. You are not a leader, you are an elected representative. You may lead five or six people at the city hall level, but you lead no citizen in their day-to-day life. This is not the military, police department, fire department, EMS or your personal business. You are not in charge and the word is inappropriate and overused, especially in the context you’re using it.
