Editor,
Thank you to all who supported my effort to become the next Coupeville Port Commissioner for District three. I trust that we will be well served by Patrick Kennedy, who was favored in our race.
I do hope, however, that some of the issues I raised will get some attention from those in a position to do something about them. I really do hope that the port will explore the possibility of allowing tent camping on the Greenbank Farm. I also sincerely hope that county officials might bring a bulldozer in to the public beach access near the farm and clear a small parking space turn around at the end of the access road in order to make the inaccessible beach access at least minimally accessible.
During the campaign I also suggested that we should remain open to the possibility of a turnover of the Navy OLF for civilian use. Particularly in light of the most recent revelations from the ongoing litigation over Navy flight training, the Navy officials responsible for training should rethink their plans for the OLF and beyond. You really must stop hurting the children and other living things in our region through your irresponsible training flights. You have alternatives such as flight simulation and large, isolated desert regions for flight spaces. If you truly consider the best course of action to fulfill your mission to serve and protect the American people, you will move flight training away from central Whidbey and away from the treasured park lands of the Olympic Peninsula.
