Editor,
We all know how hard it is to keep our kids out of trouble, so we get them involved in 4-H, band, sports and other things.
I would like to point out one of many of our outstanding adults who for the past eight-plus years has dedicated his time, money, energy and above all his patience with the boys, SWYSC, and the parks department. His name is Terry Swanson, as you may have read in the on March 5 edition of The Record, he was cited for trespassing at the soccer fields at the Sports Complex in front of his team.
There is something very wrong here. This team has been practicing year-round, three to five days a week there and they have worked very well with the former director of South Whidbey Parks and Recreation District, Terri Arnold for six years. I don’t know when a policy went into effect that the sheriff should be called when a soccer team is practicing and the coach cited for trespassing. Aren’t these fields paid for by the taxpayers and used to benefit our community?
What kind of message are we getting from our parks department? We do have a new director and maybe he doesn’t know that we don’t do that kind of thing here to someone who is very dedicated to our kids.
I want to thank Terry Swanson for making a difference in my son’s life.
Sincerely,
JOHN AUBURN
