LETTER TO THE EDITOR | Bunnies by the Sea, a new theme

Editor, Have you been to Langley lately and noticed all the rabbits? There are black ones, white ones, brown ones — you name it, they are all over the place. You have to be careful driving. They haven’t learned to use the crosswalks and you don’t want to hit one. They’re so cute. A family visiting Langley recently from Canada or England (they spoke with an accent) was overheard saying, “Look, there’s a bunny over there and there’s three over there. They are so cute.” They were so excited and thrilled to see all the bunnies roaming freely around town. That’s when I thought, “Tourist attraction.”

Editor,

Have you been to Langley lately and noticed all the rabbits? There are black ones, white ones, brown ones — you name it, they are all over the place. You have to be careful driving. They haven’t learned to use the crosswalks and you don’t want to hit one. They’re so cute.

A family visiting Langley recently from Canada or England (they spoke with an accent) was overheard saying, “Look, there’s a bunny over there and there’s three over there. They are so cute.” They were so excited and thrilled to see all the bunnies roaming freely around town. That’s when I thought, “Tourist attraction.”

We could be the town where you “Come for the Beauty and stay for the Bunnies.” Our merchants could sell bunny-themed souvenirs. Our artists could create bunny-themed art. Our musicians could write bunny-themed songs. Our thespians could create bunny-themed plays. Our writers could write bunny themed-books and poetry. Our restaurants could offer bunny-themed items on their menu, like bunny burgers or bunny burritos or bunny-patch salads for our vegan friends.

Our hardware stores could sell bunny-proof fencing so our local gardeners could protect their gardens. Our public works could create bunny-themed parks and place benches for bunny watching. We could have coin operated bunny feeding meters where one could put in a quarter, turn the handle and buy a hand full of healthy rabbit food and feed the bunnies.

These rabbits could be a real economic stimulus for our local economy. We could be the bunny capital of Whidbey Island, where you “Come to Langley for the Beauty and stay for the Bunnies.”
