To the editor:
Observed Saturday afternoon in Langley on the sidewalk in front of the newspaper stands in front of Mike’s Place was a young mother and her son. The little African American boy — maybe 18 months old — was toddler-squirmy as his Caucasian mom tried to still him for the picture she was about to take.
His small brown hands held open a copy of the South Whidbey Record whose front page featured pictures of President-elect Barack Obama. Its heartwarming headline: “HOPE MEETS HISTORY.” Snap!
Put an affirmative lump in my throat, it did.
