To the editor:
I’ve been dancing at Bayview Community Hall since I moved to Whidbey Island five years ago. Until now, my eyes have been fixed about two feet away, on my partner’s face, but lately I’ve been noticing the condition of the hall and it’s disrepair.
I very much appreciate having such a large dance floor close by, and want to do my part to make sure it remains, so I recently joined the Bayview Hall board. That’s when I learned that I am actually part-owner.
Bayview Hall belongs collectively to the residents of the South End. As co-owner, I’d like to do my part in preserving this part of Island history, along with my dance floor, of course. The building is old and desperately needs help.
In my mind, all it needs is lots of TLC from the South End community, kind of like an old-fashioned barn-raising. It’ll be hard to find time to volunteer, but with more people involved, no one has much of a burden. Please consider lending a bit of your time or specific skills to spruce up the inside and outside of this historical building.
Bayview’s annual membership meeting is at 7 p.m. June 24 at the hall. This will be a great time to offer your support. You might even have an idea or two about fixing up the place so it can start generating the funds needed to pay for upkeep, preservation, and community enjoyment.
