LETTER TO THE EDITOR | Community helped make golf drop a success

To the editor:

The Big Brothers Big Sisters helicopter golf ball drop on Aug. 29 was a big success, thanks to the community and our dedicated volunteers and sponsors.

With the money raised for our agency, we will continue our mission to match mentors from the community with children in need of a positive role model – a mission that we have successfully pursued for the past 11 years on Whidbey Island.

More than 1,000 golf balls rained down onto the Useless Bay Golf & Country Club driving range, and Ginny Coyle won $1,000 when her ball landed closest to the target.

It was a fun-filled event on a perfect summer day. But it was also the culmination of several months of hard work by the Big Brothers Big Sisters volunteers and staff.

We would like to thank all of those hard workers: event chairwoman Carol McNeil, Larry Kwarsick, Brandon and Shirley Langford, Nick Noyes, “Bigs” Trudy Martin and Earl Lawsen, “Littles” Darien, Cierra and Josie, Mark and Bobbi Robinson, John Dyer, Karen Cox, Linda Ade-Ridder, Tony and Connie Steadman, Cynthia Shelton, Marilee Seligson, Susan and Mike Lazott, and both Hal Seligson and KC Pohtilla for taking pictures of the event.

A big thank you goes out to Useless Bay Golf & Country Club who partnered with BBBS on this event, as well as our sponsors who helped make the day a success: Edwards & Associates CPAs, PayLess Foods, Freeland Shell, Short Stop Texaco, Hanson’s Building Supply, First Island Financial, Sound Planning Services, The Clyde Theatre, Waterman Self Storage, Whidbey Island Bank, Star Store and Davido Consulting.
