To the editor:
There are devils in the details that were not included in the article on the extension of the moratorium in Langley. Robert Gilman surprised his other council members with a new idea late in the process. Larry Cort, who is an employee of the city, was asked by Gilman if he could help Cort on the work on this issue. Could Cort say “no”?
We taxpayers who have vested interest in this process need to know why a professional planner needs help from a well-known activist. A mild-mannered activist who has been very public in promoting his private interest in setting the rules for what gets built in Langley to keep it tiny and economically neutralized.
By the way, as someone who was active on the Wharf Street overlay design, I am not the only participant who thought the process didn’t work well. Nor am I convinced that Mr. Gilman will bring anything of real value to the process of rezoning, whether by overlay or by his own efforts to massage the new zoning regs.
Property owners are advised to get involved in the rezoning process now, or you might be surprised at what’s coming. Can we get more details in a future article?
