Those of us medically, physically challenged folks who now face losing access to high-quality medicinal marijuana feel a great injustice is being made in the attempt to rescind licenses for our recently accepted providers of its benefits.

My experience has long been, and at 69 still is, that anyone failing to find relief in pharma — after also discovering its harms — finally finds a relaxation of their symptoms and relief from chronic pain in the form of THC — I like to call it “Tender Healing Care.”

Would you not want that for yourself or loved ones?

Many may use drugs of all kinds with impunity to alter their consciousness or, more importantly, their lack thereof. Who of you will be the judge and jury that would deny anyone — especially those suffering disease, nausea, cancer, old age, and chronic pain — a respite?

We’ve, of late, made milestones for common sense in the health rewards of medical marijuana. The same cannot be said for alcohol.

So how would you who may love wine — as do I — or other spirits feel if prohibition were reinstated? Waking up to the real needs of ourselves and one another is the essence of who we all are. Gratefully, I’ve learned living here on Whidbey for a quarter-century what community represents, and earlier also from the other wonderful places I lived and traveled to all over our world.

Let’s nurture compassion, empathy and wisdom in providing genuine care for one another. This, for me anyway, is an opportunity of honesty in action.
