To the editor:

Most recent opinion polls indicate that a record 81 percent of Americans now believe the U.S. is on the “wrong track.” Wow! There’s something happening here!

But what it is ain’t exactly clear.

What the polls don’t tell us is why people feel our country is on the wrong track. They don’t tell us specifically where we’ve gone wrong.

South Whidbey residents no doubt hold strong views on this subject, and I (for one) would be interested to read a variety of thoughtful, well-articulated opinions from diverse points of view. The essential first step in solving any problem is to define it.
