To the editor:
Soon the citizens of Central Whidbey will be asked to vote on funding for the expansion of the Sno-Isle Coupeville Branch library.
Our local library is an institution that needs our support. It is in the library that many area residents seek knowledge in books, periodicals, newspapers, videos and the Internet.
Sure, you know all that, but what you may not know is the library performs many other functions. It is a gathering place, a meeting place, a place for storytelling, and a place to relax. The Coupeville library is one of the few places in Central Whidbey you can go to get out of the weather and read a book or search for information of all kinds. For many people the library is the only source for information, entertainment, and to join with others in special endeavors.
We have one of the best systems in the state with access to many other libraries and sources of information. You’ve been there, right? Did they treat you well? Did you find the book or information you needed? Did anyone pester you about overdue books?
Did you notice the library could use more space? It does. And now the library needs your help. Please consider this important community asset and vote YES for library expansion. It will be money well spent for you and for our future voters. Don’t let them down!
