To the editor:

I’ve found a new treasure on our island: the new book, “Hometown Heroes,” composed of local people’s stories that have appeared in The Record. These folks have dealt with challenges or hardships, or have just lived their lives in ways that have enriched and uplifted my own.

I appreciate the volunteer committee’s work (typical Whidbey) in putting this book together. They made this beautiful tribute to outstanding people who make this a community of caring, generous, engaged individuals who jump in to help and support others.

Another thing I like — book profits will go to support local youth through South Whidbey Commons.

You rock, Hometown Heroes!
